If you are looking for an affordable rented home with Zen, your local council will usually be your starting point.

How it works

Our affordable rented homes are generally let through local authority housing registers and nomination arrangements. This means you will normally need to apply to your local council before you can be considered for a Zen home.

We do not generally accept direct applications for our affordable rented homes.

  1. Apply to your local council

    Visit your local council’s website to find out how to join its housing register or apply for affordable housing.

  2. Your council assesses your application

    Your council will assess your circumstances and eligibility in line with its own housing allocation policy. Depending on the area and your circumstances, you may be placed on a housing register or considered for suitable available homes.

  3. You may be nominated for a Zen home

    Where a suitable Zen home becomes available, the local council may nominate an applicant to us. We will then carry out any checks required before a tenancy can be offered.

  4. How long it takes

    Waiting times vary significantly depending on your circumstances, the area you are applying in and the availability of suitable homes. Your local council will be best placed to explain how its housing register works and what you can expect.
