Contracts have been exchanged to build the first scheme by newly registered housing provider ZEN. The sixteen one- and two-bedroom shared ownership apartments form part of Great Marlborough Estates’ Chiswick Green development in London W4 and are due to complete in summer 2023.
Described as ‘a leafy and lively mix of village and city’, the apartments deliver on ZEN’s mission for social housing in London and the South East. Over the next five years, the company aims to provide 500 affordable homes inspired by Japanese and Scandinavian design, built on a human scale and in harmony with nature.
The designs by Assael Architecture echo these principles, with landscaping carefully interspersed between buildings and flowing, open plan interiors inspired by the natural surroundings. The apartments are designed for low-carbon living and working from home, with heating and hot water provided by an air-source heat pump system serving all 137 homes on the parkside site.
The ZEN homes benefit from energy-producing photovoltaic panels on the block roofs, and WiredScore certification to guarantee the highest levels of digital connectivity.
ZEN Managing Director Graham Hishmurgh said: “I’m thrilled to secure our first scheme at Chiswick Green. The homes here show our determination to bring something fresh and distinctive to affordable housing across the capital. We believe in the power of design and this development typifies the sort of sustainable harmony we want to create in the city.”
The apartments are being built by Hertfordshire-based HG Construction.
